Rob Holloway Talks Kennedy-King

Kennedy-King College (IL) annually ranks among the top junior college programs in the Midwest.  KKC is in rebuilding mode with a young and talented roster that holds great promise for the future.

We caught up with head coach Rob Holloway to get an update on their season and to get the scoop on some of KKC's young talent.

Talk about the season is going as a whole?
“The season as a whole has been challenging.  This is basically a brand new team.  We returned only two players from last year’s regional runner-up team.  We have 8 freshmen and a transfer.  With such an inexperienced team, the guys have to learn all the little things it takes to win games.  We threw them in fire early with some nationally ranked teams on the road, but there has definitely been growth.  Guys have become more acclimated to the college game, and team chemistry continues to improve.”

Talk about your key guys and how they are performing this year?
“Devonn Gavin is a really talented player.  He is averaging 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals a game.  He is a unique talent.  He is an electric scorer, and is tough to stay in front of and keeps constant pressure on the defense.  He is also a very good on-ball defender. He seems to perform his best when the stakes are the highest.

Corday Sims is a versatile 6'5 wing. He can really shoot it and is an outstanding rebounder from the wing position. He is really playing well as of late. In the last few weeks he has had several games where is has had 20 point plus performances and double digit rebounds.

Anthony Pierce Jr. is as good as shooter as there is.  He has expanded his game and is now a threat to get to the basket.  He is averaging 13 points per game and is continuing to increase his efficiency.”

Talk about your freshman and their potential
“We have some freshmen that have a ton of potential as well.  Frank Williams is a long and wiry four man.  He is a great athlete with a good motor and a versatile skill set. He just needs to add strength. The future is very bright for this kid.

Charles George is a redshirt freshman. He is a coach’s dream. He sports a 3.5 GPA, has a tireless work ethic, and is lockdown defender. His offensive production continues to evolve and expand.”

What are your expectations for the remainder of the season?
“I am very optimistic about the rest of the season. We have a battle-tested group that continues to learn and improve. Our ceiling for the season has yet to be reached.  As long as we continue to work hard and do things the right way, I like where we are headed.”
