Monroe College (NY) star A.J. West leads the country in blocked shots at 5.1 per contest. West, who started his career at Niagara, also averages 11.4 points and 8.4 rebounds.
We caught up with West to get an update on his season as well as where his recruitment stands.
Talk about how the season has been going as a whole?
“Since the new year my minutes went way up and we went on a 15-game wining streak in which I averaged 20 points,15 rebounds, and 5 blocks a game. It was awesome during the winning streak we were playing well as both a team and individual.”
How is the recruiting process going right now?
“My coach told me Marshall called for me the other day and a bunch of schools from the MAAC, WAC and NEC schools want me. I told my coach I’m not as interested in the East Coast schools as much I would really like to go out West to finish out college.”
West took an unofficial visit to Seton Hall on Monday and will visit Marshall once the season is complete.
When it comes time to make a decision what will you be looking for in a college?
“Number one is that it's a right fit and then location are the main things I am looking for.”
What are your expectations for the remainder of the season?
“That we make it to Hutch and finish on the highest note to end the season.”
